The Mortal Instruments Series by Cassandra Clare

I had heard about these series for years and was skeptical about reading them. Shadowhunters (angel warriors to those not in the loop yet), Werewolves, Vampires, Warlocks Faeries…it was all to much for me to take in. With a movie around the corner for the first book in the series (The City of Bones) as well as a huge praise from some of my closest book loving friends, I took a 6 month plunge to read the series. The books flow well from one to another, but the first three are the best. You will be confused if you do not read past the second book, whether you are seeing the movie or not, I suggest the same guidance. Or you might just think fans of this series are okay with incest, which is not what it’s about. (No spoilers, just read them for clarification, we’re not that weird, I promise. )  The main characters storyline has it’s ups and downs throughout the whole series, but it’s the supporting characters that I loved.

Book  #6 aka City of Heavenly Fire is planned to be published this year. There is also a prequel trilogy called The Infernal Devices Series  that has the first two books published, the third being released as well this year (just finished the first two, so I’ll put a review of those up soon). It has also been announced that a sequel trilogy called The Dark Artifices will be releasing it’s first book in 2015. And even more books centered around this world are planned to come out as well with 10 short stories based around Magnus Bane (fun guy, you’ll love reading about him. These books, similar to Harry Potter, are their own world. While it may take some awhile to digest all of the books, it is worth the read. Get prepared now, this is the next book to movie franchise phenomenon.
